The importance of being yourself

I've recently had the opportunity to write a letter to my son who is about to undertake the HSC (Higher School Certificate) later this year. I spoke to him about how the HSC is just one of the challenges that life will throw at you , and whilst it is important it will not define him as a person, his career or his life.

I re-read what I had just written and the message that it was intended to delivery and wow what an ah-ha moment. I have let myself become defined by my role and other peoples perceptions and expectations. One thing that I have learnt and am still re-learning is that I need to be true to myself and authentic to be truly happy.

Be yourself and if you are happy and contented with that be happy, and if that is not good enough for others oh well......
